What Is an Edge Glued Board Or a Solid Wood Board?
An edge-glued board is the result of the union of several slats glued sideways. This is how one of the most popular and most consumed wooden boards is formed, the solid wood board.
What are the measures of an edge-glued board?
The measurements of an edge-glued board are usually 2400 mm long by 1200 mm wide, while the most popular thicknesses are usually 15, 18, 22 and 30 mm
These boards that make up the solid wood board, may or may not have the same width, and the same happens with the length.
If the length that the edge-glued board should make is not reached, which will normally be 2400 mm or 2440 mm, finger joint is used. This is a technique that assembles two boards shorter than the one required to achieve the desired measure. If you interlace your fingers, you will fully understand what we are talking about!
Therefore, at all times we are facing a 100% wooden board where the finger joint most likely improves its resistance.

Origins of the Paulownia Edge-Glued Board
Being a wood originally from China, all our paulownia boards are manufactured there. The reason is as follows: we seek to take advantage of the benefits of working in the place of origin of this wood variety, since the characteristics of the wood vary depending on the conditions of the place of growth.
Board Description
Paulownia wood has a white sapwood , with a grayish-yellow heartwood with pink highlights. As for its fibre, it is straight and without knots, and as for the grain, it is fine and smooth.
Material Features
It has an average density of 270 Kg / m3 for a moisture content of 12%.
Regarding its dimensional stability, we can confirm that it is a slightly nervous wood with a volumetric contraction coefficient of 0.14%. In parallel, its result (0.0027 Kg/m2) as regards the test that measures the hygroscopicity of paulownia, we can affirm that it is a wood that has a slight swelling or decrease as soon as its humidity content varies.
Mechanic Features
The tests carried out by Incafust provide the following information:
- Static bending strength: 344 kg / cm2
- Modulus of elasticity: 31.962 kg / cm2
- Resistance to axial compression: 236 kg / cm2
Impregnability
Both for its sapwood and its heartwood, paulownia plywood is a completely impregnable board.
Mechanization
Several of the carpenters who have already worked with paulownia wood agree that it is a comfortable board to work with. It wares out very little of the tools, such as cutting discs, and that it also has a fast drying, unproblematic brushing and easy and simple nailing and screwing.
Since, regardless of the types of paulownia boards, the wood itself is easy to machine.

Our edge-glued boards always have the same length and width, although the thickness varies depending on our customers' needs.

The width of the boards of our paulownia edge-glued board always varies. That is, on the same board, we will find slats with a width of 300 mm and others with a width of 430 mm or 820 mm. And furthermore, the width of the slat at one end may be different than the width of that same slat at the other end! Therefore, we can say that we are dealing with a totally handmade paulownia board, since each of our edge-glued boards are unique and unrepeatable.
